Abuja - The Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu, has dispelled rumours of a possible aerial attack in the north-eastern part of the country by terrorists.
He said the Nigerian Air Force was still in control of the nation’s airspace.
Amosu revealed that with the sophisticated equipment it has acquired, it would bring down any planes passing through the country’s airspace.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day logistics seminar in Abuja, Amosu stated that the recent news about suspected members of Boko Haram dropping explosives using aircraft should be dismissed as mere rumor.
“Some people cannot differentiate an aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force when it is flying from a commercial flight, I say with deep sense of responsibility that we are in full control of the Nigerian Airspace. We have technology that can detect any unauthorized aircraft that flies over our airspace. If we observe such aircraft, we will definitely bring them down,” he said.
Although he admitted that the NAF was worried by the news, he added that the military treated any information, whether it was rumour or not, with the urgency it deserved.
“We are worried equally and we are monitoring, but like I said, somebody may see the Nigerian Airforce aircraft and believe that it belong to Boko Haram.
"One thing is sure, they are getting their supplies, but it might not be by air. They have built up the Manbisa Forest for a very long time, how are we sure that they did not have sufficient supply in stock before the attack started,” said Amosu.
